Radiology Sciences Department

The Department of Radiology Sciences is dedicated to providing high-quality, accurate imaging diagnostics to help physicians in the timely diagnosis and treatment of a wealth of conditions. Using advanced technology and imaging techniques, our radiologists live up to their commitment in transforming and constantly improving the way patients receive health care.

The Department has been in existence since the establishment of the hospital. It is equipped with digital and sophisticated levels of diagnostic imaging machines. Since its inception, it has evolved into a multi-specialty department with accredited residency and fellowship training programs.

Our Subspecialties

The Department is comprised of multiple subspecialties catering to various modalities available:

  • Diagnostic Radiography – Uses x-rays, a type of electromagnetic radiation, to produce images of the interior of the body without having to make any incisions.
  • Ultrasound Scan – A medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body. An ultrasound allows your doctor to see problems with organs, vessels, and tissues without needing to make an incision and the use of radiation.
  • Computed Tomography (CT Scan) – Uses x-ray equipment to create a sequence of cross-sectional images of the body. This is often used when a doctor needs highly detailed images to study in order to identify the source of a problem.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – Uses magnetic field and radio waves to obtain superior and detailed images of the body, helping identify and adequately characterize diseases. MRI does not use ionizing radiation.
  • Vascular Imaging – An essential method to evaluate the body’s circulatory system, helping identify narrowing, stenosis, or blockages in the arteries and veins. Vascular imaging can be obtained via Doppler ultrasound study or contrast or non-contrast enhanced angiography from CT, MRI, or interventional procedures. Various modalities are available for vascular imaging.
  • Mammography – Uses low-dose x-rays for breast imaging and screening of nodules, both benign and malignant. It has a central role in the early detection of breast cancers.
  • Interventional Radiology – Uses imaging technology such as CT scans, MRI, and ultrasound to help guide medical procedures. This technology eliminates the need for surgery and scopes to diagnose and treat certain conditions. Common uses for interventional radiology include treating cancers, blockages in arteries or veins, back pain, or liver and kidney problems. Highly specialized radiologists are trained and experienced to safely and accurately perform these procedures.
