Trouble Sleeping? We Can Help!

Capitol Med’s Sleep Center maybe the solution you have been dreaming of with your sleep problems.

CMC’s Sleep Center provides better care to patients who have primary snoring disorder, insomnia parasomnia and other related disorders, one of which is the Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) the most common disorder that is diagnosed and treated here. OSA is life threatening disorder characterized by brief, repetitive interruptions of breathing during sleep. Indicators of OSA include sleepiness, loud irregular snoring, morning headache and obesity. When left untreated, this may lead to increase risk of hypertension, stroke, heart attack, and industrial accidents. Such patients undergo a full night sleep study also know as Polysomnography while they are being monitored and assisted by competent Sleep Technicians during the entire sleep study.

Sleep Center offers different services as well such as Split Night Sleep Studies for diagnosis and titration; Sleep Studies using Watch PAT Device for an overnight sleep study at a hospital room / home monitoring; and Multiple Sleep Latency Test for patients with narcolepsy done during daytime at Sleep Center. The Capitol Medical Center Sleep Center prides in its latest technology, the Sandman Elite SD32 Polysommography System which revolutionized diagnosis of whether or not a person suffers from sleep Apnea or some other form of sleep disorder.

There will be wires or probes that are painlessly attached on the patient’s body, hence, making it a non-invasive procedure. These wires or probes display waves in the monitor in order to observe the patient’s brainwaves (EEG), muscle tension (EMG), respiration, electrical conduction of the heart including its heart rate and rhythm (ECG), eye movement (EOG), oxygen level in the blood and sound of snoring.

Once diagnosed, the most common treatment is utilization of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) where a preset amount of sir pressure is mechanically delivered via a nasal or oro-nasal mask to maintain an open airway during sleep. Other medical and conservative treatments may include mandibular appliance device for patients with Retrognathion, snoring vest / mattress for positional snorers or those with mild positional obstructive sleep apnea, and surgical intervention, like minimally invasive surgery of soft palate radiofrequency.

Even though the Sleep Center itself is seated right in the hospital, it was designed in such a way the patients would feel such a “homey’ ambiance, hence promoting an environment conducive for patients to sleep.
